The Pharmacist is responsible for quality, safe, appropriate, and timely medication therapy to the patients of Dekalb Medical. Pharmacist oversees the procurement and dispensing of medication therapy to patients. Will provide patient care, treatment, and services within the scope of their license, certification, registration, and/or assessed competencies. Practice will be in accordance with laws and regulations.
Prepares medications by reviewing, interpreting, and verifying physician orders; detecting therapeutic alerts and incompatibilities.
Dispenses medications by compounding, packaging, labeling pharmaceuticals, and double checking.
Controls medications by monitoring drug therapies; advising interventions, keeping current on backorders, shortages, recalls
Completes pharmacy operational requirements by directing technicians' work flow; verifying their preparation and labeling of pharmaceuticals; verifying message que entries, charges, and inspections.
Provides pharmacological information by answering questions and requests of health care professionals; counseling patients on drug therapies if needed.
Monitors anticoagulation therapy and provides pharmacokinetic and other clinical dosing request per physician or midlevel practitioner consults.
Participates in Blue Alert Codes for specified campus
Develops hospital staff's pharmacological knowledge by participating in continuing education clinical programs; training pharmacy staff, students, interns, externs, and pharmacy residents as required.
Complies with state and federal drug laws as regulated by the State Board of Pharmacy, the Joint Commission, the Drug Enforcement Administration, and the Food and Drug Administration.
Assists with compliance of maintaining records for controlled substances; monitors nonformulary requests for therapeutic substitutions.
Supervising the work results of support personnel; advising management on pending issues and needed actions.
Adheres to Infection Prevention policies and protocols that protect patients and staff.
Maintain safe and clean work environments as set in department policy
Establishes and maintains positive working relationships with all clinical and non clinical personnel
Performs other duties as assigned to meet the goals and objectives of DeKalb Medical

Minimum Education, Experience and Licensure Required:
Bachelors of Science or Pharmacy Doctorate from an accredited school of Pharmacy required
Current registration and licensure with the Georgia Board of Pharmacy
Minimum of one year hospital pharmacy experience preferred.

Strong customer service skills
Knowledge of USP 797 requirements
Ability to use a computer and related software applications.
Performs skills and competencies as defined in orientation checklist and annual departmental competency checklist if applicable.
Demonstrates and maintains competencies specific to all patient populations served
Familiarity with current hospital drug distribution systems and progressive pharmacy services
