Responsibilities

JOB SUMMARY:

 

Assists the Provider in delivering care to patients seeking urgent medical attention or suffering from on-the-job injuries.  Performs radiographic and other procedures as needed to complete screenings, physical examinations, and substance abuse testing. Performs front office activities including patient and employer reception, payment acceptance and posting, medical records procedures and switchboard operations. Communicates with Insurance Companies, adjusters, employers, and other responsible parties to ensure payment collections and address past-due and delinquent accounts. Assist with referral processes. Prepares examination rooms and maintains proper inventory of medical supplies. Ensures compliance with Company policies and audits. Proficient skills in computers, MS Office programs & EMR, strong preference for knowledge of Systoc.

 

This position involves treatment of patients and requires direct access to Protected Health Information (PHI). The PHI accessed is limited to the minimum necessary PHI of patients being treated. PHI is accessed through direct contact with the patient and/or family/visitors, the patient’s medical record/chart/admission, computer applications, or verbal reports from other direct care providers.

 

 

 

JOB RESPONSIBILTIES:

  1. Provides patient care, treatment, and services within the scope of their license, certification, registration, and/or assessed competencies.  Practice will be in accordance with laws and regulations and will adhere to established policies, procedures and practice guidelines.
  2. Escorts patients to the Examination Room, obtains complete vital signs, and documents past medical history in patient’s chart (EMR).
  3. Assist the Provider with procedures, injections, venipuncture, laboratory tests, urinalysis, EKG – 12 lead, Snellen, Titmus, Ishihara, Audiogram, Spirometry, drug screening, breath alcohol tests, X-Rays, instrument set-up/clean-up and patient communication. Keeps examination rooms clean and stocked.
  4. Communicates effectively and reviews Provider’s discharge summary instructions with the patient.
  5. Keeps constant communication with Employers, Adjusters, Case Managers and TPA agencies. Ensures immediate delivery of Work Status, Medical Notes and Referrals to appropriate parties.
  6. Ensures Compliance with Company policies and audits.
  7. Receives and process authorization of services from employers or case managers.
  8. Documents and updates employer profiles and protocols in the EMR.
  9. Supports peers and helps training new staff.
  10. Clerical and Front office duties as assigned.
  11. Occasional on-site screenings, immunizations and Health fairs
  12. Participates in continuous quality improvement activities to ensure the provision of and improvement upon safe and quality patient care.
  13. Participates in supporting the organization’s vision, mission and values and adheres to DeKalb Medical Standards of Behavior.
  14. Performs other duties as assigned to meet the goals and objectives of DeKalb Medical.
 
 
 
 

 

 

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

Minimum Education, Experience and Licensure Required:

 

  1. Certified Medical Assistant from an accredited Medical Assistant Program or equivalent training.
  2. High School Diploma or equivalent.
  3. 2 years of Occupational Medicine/Urgent Care or front desk and back office clinical experience.
  4. Valid driver’s license
  5. Proficient use of computers & MS Office programs.
  6. Bilingual (Spanish) is a plus.

 

 

 

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

  1. Must be able to perform skills and competencies as defined in orientation checklist and annual departmental competency checklist if applicable.
  2. Demonstrates and maintains competencies specific to patient population served.
  3. Knowledge of GA Worker Compensation regulations & Medical Terminology
  4. Knowledge of health care insurance claim practices and compliance including HIPAA rules and regulations.
  5. Knowledge of ICD, CPT coding.
  6. Proficient skills in computers, MS Office programs & EMR, strong preference for work with Systoc.
  7. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  8. Extraordinary Customer service skills.
  9. Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  10. Ability to operate medical equipment, including X-Ray unit and processor, EKG-12 lead, digital thermometer, digital blood pressure machine, centrifuge, Titmus machine, etc.
