The Neonatal Respiratory Therapist is a clinical professional who utilizes the departments’ scope of services to access; plan; implement and evaluate patient care as an integral member of the healthcare team.  The Neonatal therapist works under the direction of the physician and in accordance with hospital protocols along with other healthcare providers.


Provides patient care, treatment, and services within the scope of their license, certification, registration, and/or assessed competencies.  Practice will be in accordance with laws and regulations and will adhere to established policies, procedures and practice guidelines.



  1. Staff member provides patient care, treatment, and services within the scope of their license, certification, registration, and/or assessed competencies. Practice will be in accordance with laws and regulations.
  2. Attends high risk deliveries in order to help stabilize infant patients.
  3. Provides ventilatory support and airway management to designated patients.
  4. Participates in blood gas acquisition and analysis.
  5. Provides aerosol therapy and bronchial hygiene therapy for designated patients.
  6. Performs a variety of duties related to setting up, operating, cleaning, sterilizing, and storing respiratory therapy equipment.
  7. Documents and charges appropriately regarding patient care procedures.
  8. Promotes team work with fellow therapist and other care givers.
  9. Promote and coordinate a collaborative approach to patient care and staff interaction.
  10. Participates in continuous quality improvement teams and activities.
  11. Participates in supporting the organization’s vision, mission and values and adheres to DeKalb Medical Standards of Behavior.
  12. Performs other duties as assigned to meet the goals and objectives of DeKalb Medical.



Minimum Education, Experience and Licensure Required:

·         Graduate of an AMA, CAAHEP, CoARC Respiratory Therapy Program

·         Associates or Bachelors Degree in Respiratory Therapy is required. 

·         Licensed by the State of Georgia

·         Current BLS and NRP certification required

·         Current Membership in the National Board of Respiratory Care

·         Registered Respiratory Therapist by the National Board of Respiratory Care
